CentSense Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 10, 2026

CentSense is a budgeting app built for students. This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes. The short version: your financial data lives on your device, we run no accounts and no ads, and the only thing that ever leaves your phone is what you type to the optional AI assistant.

Data stored on your device

Everything you enter in CentSense is stored locally on your iPhone: transactions, income, budgets, savings goals, bill reminders, accounts and balances, net worth history, lesson progress, streaks, your display name, and your profile picture. None of this is uploaded to us or anyone else. We cannot see it. If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. You can also erase everything at any time in Settings > Reset All Data.

No accounts, no tracking, no ads

CentSense has no sign-up, no login, and no user accounts. The app contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking of any kind. We do not build profiles of you and we have nothing to sell.

The AI assistant

CentSense includes an optional AI chat assistant. When you send it a message, the following is transmitted over an encrypted connection to our server, which forwards it to a third-party AI provider (OpenRouter, which routes to a large language model) to generate a reply:

This information is used only to generate the assistant's reply. Our server does not store your messages. We do not send your name, your contact details, your full transaction history, your photos, or any device identifiers. If you never open the AI assistant, nothing is ever transmitted. Simple questions (like your budget remaining) are answered directly on your device without any network request. The AI provider processes data under its own privacy policy, available at openrouter.ai/privacy.

Receipt scanning

Receipt photos are processed entirely on your device using Apple's built-in text recognition. Receipt images are never uploaded anywhere and are not stored by the app after scanning.

Face ID / Touch ID

If you turn on App Lock, unlocking is handled by iOS. CentSense never sees or stores your biometric data; the system only tells the app whether unlock succeeded.

Photos

If you set a profile picture, the photo you choose is stored only on your device. The app uses Apple's photo picker, which means CentSense can only access the single photo you select, never your photo library.

Notifications

Bill reminders and check-in notifications are scheduled locally on your device. No notification data leaves your phone.

Children's privacy

CentSense is designed to be safe for students. Because the app collects no personal information and has no accounts, no personal information is collected from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's update notes.
